Rhode Island DHS Field Offices for Medicare Savings Applications: Locations, Hours, and Phone

Rhode Island DHS operates six regional field offices where you can drop off a Medicare Savings Program application, submit renewal documents, or get in-person help. Drop-box access varies by site; the Providence lobby box has posted hours, while after-hours boxes are available at some locations below.

DHS Field Office Locations

Providence — 125 Holden Street, Providence, RI 02908. A secondary lobby drop box is available at the Shepard Building, 80 Washington Street, Providence, RI 02903 (8:30 AM to 4:00 PM).

Pawtucket — 249 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI 02860. The 24/7 exterior drop box is accessible any time.

Woonsocket — 219 Pond Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895. Both interior and exterior drop boxes are available.

South County (Wakefield) — Oliver Stedman Center, 4808 Tower Hill Road, Suite G1, Wakefield, RI 02879. The 24/7 exterior drop box is accessible any time.

Newport / Middletown — 31 John Clarke Road, Middletown, RI 02842. The 24/7 exterior drop box is accessible any time.

Cranston (Central Operations) — Hazard Building, 41 West Road, Cranston, RI 02920. Exterior drop box available.

Phone Contact

The DHS Call Center number is 1-855-697-4347 (1-855-MY-RIDHS). Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The center is closed on Wednesdays.

Phone wait times vary. Reddit posts and caregiver forums report callback waits of two hours or more during peak periods. The callback system means you leave your number and DHS calls you back — you do not sit on hold, but you do need to be available when they call. If you miss the callback, you start over.

Tips for In-Person Visits

Walk-in visits work for document submission and basic questions. If your parent cannot travel to an office, some drop boxes are available 24/7; check the location details above. Label the envelope with your parent's case number or full name and date of birth so DHS can match it to the right file.

For a complex question — like disputing an income calculation or responding to a denial notice — calling ahead gives the caseworker time to pull up the file. You can also check your case status through the HealthyRhode portal.

If you need in-depth help navigating the application, Rhode Island SHIP offers free, unbiased counseling at 1-888-884-8721. SHIP counselors understand the MSP process and can help you prepare documents before you submit them to DHS.
