Not every situation warrants a formal appeal. If your parent's discharge plan is reasonable but the timing needs adjustment — an extra day for equipment delivery, a delayed discharge until follow-up is confirmed — you can request Immediate Advocacy Discharge Assistance (IADA) through Acentra.

IADA is an informal mediation service. Acentra facilitates communication between the family and the hospital care team to resolve concerns without the formal appeal process. It doesn't freeze the discharge, but it often produces practical adjustments.

What to Do If the Appeal Is Denied

If Acentra upholds the discharge decision, the patient becomes responsible for hospital or SNF charges starting the day after the denial. However, you still have further appeal options:

• Request reconsideration through the Qualified Independent Contractor (QIC)
• Appeal to an Administrative Law Judge (for amounts over $180)
• Request Medicare Appeals Council review
