Identify two local contacts — a neighbour, a friend from the parent's social circle, or a member of their congregation — who can reach the house within 15 minutes. Give them a key or install a smart lockbox with a code you can share remotely.

Set up a smart lockbox on the front door so that emergency responders, home care aides, or your local contacts can enter without forcing the door. First responders frequently encounter locked homes during wellness checks and may need to break a window or wait for a locksmith — adding dangerous minutes to a fall response.

The Critical Setup Mistake: Notification Overload

The single biggest reason remote monitoring systems get abandoned is alert fatigue. If your phone buzzes every time your parent opens a door, walks to the kitchen, or turns on a light, you'll mute the notifications within a week — and then miss the alert that actually matters.
