$0 Alaska — Medicare Savings Program Eligibility Checklist

Alaska DPA Office Locations and Contact Numbers for Medicare Savings Programs

You need to reach DPA about a Medicare Savings Program application, renewal, or missing documents — and the phone line has been ringing for 45 minutes. Here's every way to contact the Division of Public Assistance and which one actually gets results.

DPA Regional Offices

Alaska DPA operates state-run regional offices, including Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, plus a Virtual Contact Center. Alaska does not use borough-administered county welfare offices. Check DPA's current office list for other locations before traveling.

Anchorage Regional Office: 3601 C Street, Suite 400, Anchorage, AK 99503. Paper applications can be dropped off at a regional field office. Call DPA before visiting to confirm current hours and in-person services.

Fairbanks Regional Office: Serves Fairbanks and Interior communities. Confirm its current address and services through DPA before traveling.

Juneau Regional Office: 130 Seward Street, Juneau, AK 99801. Serves Southeast Alaska, including Sitka and Ketchikan. Island communities often rely on mail and the online portal due to ferry-dependent transportation.

Virtual Contact Center

Call 1-800-478-7778 (TDD/Alaska Relay: 7-1-1). The Virtual Contact Center routes eligibility questions and verbal applications statewide. You can apply for Medicare Savings Programs over the phone, report changes, and check application status.

Wait times vary significantly. DPA has experienced staffing shortages that affect both phone queues and processing timelines. If the phone line isn't productive, the online portal or an in-person visit may be faster.

Alaska Connect Online Portal

The Alaska Connect portal (alaskaconnect.ilinx.com) handles MSP applications, document uploads, and renewals through a myAlaska login. For out-of-state caregivers managing a parent's application, this is often the only practical option.

The portal connects to DPA's ARIES processing system, so documents uploaded here go directly into the case file. You get a timestamp confirming receipt, which matters when the 45-day processing clock is running.

Remote and Bush Communities

Communities off the road grid rely on mail, fax, and phone through the Virtual Contact Center. Mail transit from rural areas can take two to four weeks each way. If you're filing from a remote village, consider applying verbally through the Virtual Contact Center and mailing verification documents separately. Ask DPA to confirm the application receipt date it records.

Tribal health organizations in rural communities can also assist Alaska Native elders with navigating the DPA system and connecting with the right regional office.

The Alaska Medicare Savings Programs & Extra Help Guide includes a contacts reference sheet with every DPA office, the SHIP counseling line, SSA, and Alaska Legal Services — designed to keep on the fridge for quick reference.
